Introduction
Hey there! How’s it going? Let’s quickly recap some changes in Oracle GoldenGate 23ai that you need to know!
Oracle GoldenGate 23ai brings several enhancements and improvements, but it also removes support for some legacy features and parameters. Staying informed about these changes is crucial for professionals who want to keep their environments up to date and avoid unexpected issues, especially during upgrades.
In this blog post, you’ll find a clear and structured overview of the discontinued features and parameters, along with recommended alternatives to ensure you’re up to date with the latest best practices.
Key Features No Longer Supported
Classic Architecture → Oracle GoldenGate now ONLY supports Microservices Architecture. If you’re still using Classic, it’s time to migrate (Pleeeease, do it now. Seriously.).
Integrated Replicat → This mode has been deprecated, and users should switch to Parallel Replicat. So, forget IR for new implementations and start planning your transition when migrating to 23ai. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Blowfish Encryption → No longer supported. If encryption is needed, consider AES encryption. Let’s keep our data secure, and please don’t tell me you’re not using OGG encryption at all… 😬
Trace Table for Oracle Databases → Removed, along with its associated parameters (TRACETABLE
, NOTRACETABLE
) and commands (ADD TRACETABLE
, DELETE TRACETABLE
, INFO TRACETABLE
). It had a good run, but now it’s gone… byeee.
Six-Digit Trail Files → The six-digit trail file format has been deprecated. From now on, only standard trail file naming is supported. Goodbye, old-school OGG versions with 6-digit trails. You had your time. 👋
USERID/PASSWORD in Parameter Files → Security best practices now enforce USERIDALIAS
instead of storing credentials directly in parameter files. Let’s be honest, CREDENTIALSTORE is one of the best security features
in OGG. Wait… are you still using USERID
and PASSWORD
in parameter files? Shame on you! (haha) 😂
Deprecated Parameters & Recommended Alternatives
The table below summarizes the key parameters removed in Oracle GoldenGate 23ai, along with possible replacements:
Category | Item | Status | Replacement / Alternative |
---|---|---|---|
Feature | Classic Architecture | Desupported | Use Microservices Architecture |
Feature | Integrated Replicat | Deprecated | Use Parallel Replicat |
Feature | Blowfish Encryption | Desupported | Not supported, consider AES encryption |
Feature | Trace Table | Desupported | Feature removed, no direct replacement |
Feature | Six-Digit Trail Files | Desupported | Only supports standard trail file format |
Feature | USERID/PASSWORD in Parameter Files | Deprecated | Use USERIDALIAS instead |
Parameter | FILTERTABLE | Deprecated | Use EXCLUDEFILTERTABLE |
Parameter | GETREPLICATES | Deprecated | Feature removed, no direct replacement |
Parameter | GETAPPLOPS | Deprecated | Feature removed, no direct replacement |
Parameter | IGNOREREPLICATES | Deprecated | Feature removed, no direct replacement |
Parameter | IGNOREAPPLOPS | Deprecated | Feature removed, no direct replacement |
Parameter | SHOWSYNTAX | Deprecated | Feature removed, no direct replacement |
Command | ADD TRACETABLE Command | Desupported | Feature removed, no direct replacement |
Command | DELETE TRACETABLE Command | Desupported | Feature removed, no direct replacement |
Command | INFO TRACETABLE Command | Desupported | Feature removed, no direct replacement |
- Deprecated = Still works, but should be avoided.
- Desupported = Completely removed, cannot be used anymore.
So, if something is deprecated, start planning a migration. If it’s desupported, you must migrate now. 🚀
Why is this Important and what's next?
L📌 Keeping your Oracle GoldenGate environment up to date helps avoid compatibility issues and ensures that your replication processes remain secure, optimized, and aligned with best practices.
📌 Understanding which features are no longer supported prevents unexpected errors when upgrading.
📌 Migrating to the recommended alternatives ensures a better transition and helps you take advantage of the newest GoldenGate capabilities.
By staying informed about these changes, you can maximise efficiency, improve security, and maintain a robust data replication strategy in Oracle GoldenGate 23ai. 🚀
So, if you’re using any of the deprecated features or parameters, start planning your migration now.
